Toto Wolff thinks it will be difficult for Mercedes to finish second in the constructors' championship after the disappointing result in the Singapore Grand Prix. Still, the team boss hopes Mercedes can rebuild momentum in the final races of the season.

Tricky task for Mercedes

The weekend in Singapore was one to quickly forget for the Mercedes team. Lewis Hamilton came in ninth place after sinking further back from P3, partly due to a visit to the wall. George Russell did not even finish in the points with a 14th place.

Ferrari did take home quite a few points with second and third places for Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. As a result, Mercedes are now 66 points behind the Italians' second place in the constructors' championship. So, with only five races left on the calendar, it will be a tough task to overtake Ferrari.

"The biggest frustration is that we couldn’t build on the signs of competitive performance we saw in FP2 and in qualifying. Our championship fight for P2 has got significantly more difficult with this result, but the only thing to do is to collect ourselves and throw our energy into the next race in Suzuka to rebuild momentum", Wolff is quoted by Formula1.com.
