Albon blames himself for crash during 'frustrating' Singapore GP

Alexander Albon failed to cross the finish line at the Singapore Grand Prix. Because of the rain, the car was difficult to drive, but the Thai admits the collision with the wall was his own fault.

Albon had to end his race early due to damage to his Williams resulting from a crash against the barrier. The Thai returned to Singapore after having to miss the Italian Grand Prix due to appendicitis. Nyck de Vries filled in for Albon and took home two points for Williams.

However, Albon was declared fit by doctors to compete again in Singapore, but the car was not as strong on the Marina Bay street circuit as it was in Monza. After starting the race from P18, the Williams driver finished in the wall on lap seven.

Albon leaves Singapore frustrated

The former Red Bull Racing driver was still able to get away with his car, but once back in the pit lane the damage to the FW44 proved too severe. Although the Williams driver did not have the pace to score points in Singapore anyway, Albon was very disappointed with the result.

"[It’s] frustrating. I need to have a look at it, obviously. Nothing strange, I didn’t brake later or anything, just got caught out. It’s quite tricky in the wet with getting the brakes in the correct window. In the end it's my mistake, but it was a tricky one out there. We didn’t really have the pace this weekend but nevertheless we will fight back in Japan", the Williams driver is quoted by Formula1.com.
