Remarkable line-up for F2 team: 27-year-old starts fifth season

Two names have been confirmed for the 2023 Formula 2 season by PHM Racing by Charouz, but they are not the names you expect to see in the last stepping-up class for Formula 1. Roy Nissany, at 27, is facing his fifth F2 season and Brad Benavides is making the switch from Formula 3.

The line-up for the 2023 Formula 2 season is starting to take shape. The 2023 champion, MP Motorsport, previously announced the arrival of Dennis Hauger. Prema Racing has confirmed two talented drivers with Oliver Bearman and Frederik Vesti, Arthur Leclerc will be in action for DAMS and Clement Novalak has already been confirmed by Trident.

Charouz opts for Nissany

On Tuesday, PHM Racing by Charouz also announced who will be in action for the team in 2023. Nissany's name is particularly noteworthy, as the Israeli, at 27, is no longer exactly considered a talent, if his on-track performance is sufficient for that title at all. However, the role within Williams' academy and father Chanoch Nissany's must have helped secure him a fifth F2 season. Nissany finished 19th in the 2022 championship with 20 points.

Benavides is an American-Spanish driver hailing from Florida. Benavides has yet to win a single race in formula cars and finished 23rd in the 2022 Formula 3 championship on behalf of Carlin. Benavides scored three points in 18 races.

Charouz Racing System, as the team was still listed in 2022, also surprised with its line-up in 2022. Then it chose Turkish sim racer Cem Bolukbasi (races 1-2 and 4-10), David Beckman (race 3) and Tatiana Calderon (races 11-14) as drivers for the second seat and finished eighth among constructors. However, those points were not scored by those drivers, but all by the first driver: Enzo Fittipaldi. Emerson's grandson finished eighth overall and even stood on the podium six times.
