Mattia Binotto's departure from Ferrari is causing quite a stir. Indeed, besides this season's disappointing results, the team boss is quite well-liked in Formula 1. Even Heikki Kovalainen does not understand the Italian racing stable's choice, he told Talksport.

The former Formula 1 driver stresses that Binotto has built up a lot at Ferrari. Indeed, after a down period, the Italian managed to create calm within the team and thus return to the top of the rankings.

"It won’t be one person that can fix or destroy an operation. I was very surprised to see the news," Kovalainen assessed to the medium. "Binotto to me comes across as a good leader, he’s been one of the calmer guys at Ferrari."

Panic at Ferrari in the past

However, he is not surprised that Ferrari would take such a decision. Indeed, past experience has shown that turmoil within the formation is not easily resolved. However, Kovalainen continues to question whether sending Binotto away is the right thing to do.

"If you look at the recent history, the last few years have been a bit more steady and stable at Ferrari than in the past when the team principal was changing more often. I think there is something still missing from the Ferrari team that is causing this chaos and panic at times, at crucial moments of the weekend."
