Whereas Mercedes was unbeatable in terms of speed for almost a decade, Red Bull Racing was the fastest team in 2022 with the well-run Honda engine. According to Haas F1 team boss Guenther Steiner, for 2023, the Ferrari engine in particular has a lot of potential.

Ferrari will need it next year to stay connected at the top and take the next step. The Scuderia weakened in mid-2022 and was even battling Mercedes to defend second place in the championship at the last race in Abu Dhabi. The Ferrari team boss, Mattia Binotto, will no longer be around next year, but has informed his customers that things are looking good for 2023. Indeed, Ferrari has built a fast engine.

Binotto had good news for customers

Steiner made this known to Ravennatoday.it in Italy during the Bandini Trophy presentation ceremony. Steiner was present at the event because it was Haas driver Kevin Magnussen who had won the award. At the event, Steiner said he expects a competitive fight at the front between Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes next year: "I hope it will be a good fight in the championship. After all, that's what I want to see as an enthusiast. In Emilia Romagna there is a lot of support for Ferrari and if the team is competitive then that will also be positive for us."

Haas is a customer of the Italian carmaker and drives Ferrari's engines. Steiner continued: "It would mean we get a fast engine. Just last Thursday I saw Binotto and he told me the engine for next year is a rocket." It must be a nasty time for the Italian team boss. Binotto apparently has sight of a strong car for 2023 built under his leadership, but will no longer be at Ferrari from January 1st.
