This year, Pierre Gasly joined Alpine after a long career within the Red Bull family. Laurent Rossi, CEO of Alpine, speaks with enthusiasm about his compatriot.

In the official Formula 1 podcast Beyond The Grid Rossi shared his first impression of Gasly, one of the ingredients for the team's hoped-for success. The CEO immediately noted the driver's drive: "I think he realises that it’s a great opportunity and to be honest, it is eventually a critical point in his career.”

What the businessman means by this is that Gasly is starting to reach a certain age where his options are getting fewer and fewer. If, by the time he reaches the age of thirty, he loses his place in the sport, it will be difficult to be able to come back. Gasly is therefore aware of that fact, Rossi said. He works hard to keep performing.

An athletic person

Gasly's motivation can be seen not only in his mentality, but also in his physique. The driver is extremely fit. "He was as wide as Esteban [Ocon] is tall!" laughed Rossi. The CEO also indicated that Gasly's athletic ability is so far-reaching that he could have become a professional footballer. However, the young Frenchman chose Formula 1 because he rated his chances of excelling there higher due to the smaller number of competitors.
