Just after the 2023 Formula 1 season got underway, Williams announced that it had appointed a new Chief Operating Officer as part of its restructures. Frederic Brousseau joined the team after a 26-year stint in the aerospace industry at Pratt & Whitney in Canada. Williams Team Principal James Vowles believes his experience and organisational skills will be important for the team, as it looks to take advantage of the new cost cap era in F1. "He has a good experience and good knowledge about how to bring thousands of people – in our case, hundreds – together in a key clinch moment," said Vowles. "Especially under the cost-cap: the more efficient you can be at doing that, the more money that's available to develop the car later."
Williams started the 2023 season in the rather unusual situation of not having a technical director, having let go of Francois-Xavier Demaison and aero boss David Wheater. The team's design director, David Worner, is currently interim technical director while they search for a new candidate. Vowles points out the need to supplement these positions with "good experience" while they have people standing in for the role. He added: "At the moment there's a technical leadership where I have lots of people standing in and doing a great job, but we need to supplement them with good experience from industry."
