Verstappen Mocks McLaren After Intermediate Tyre Strategy Collapses In Canada

Max Verstappen openly laughed at McLaren's decision to start the Canadian Grand Prix on intermediate tyres after the strategy immediately fell apart on Sunday. McLaren stood alone among the frontrunners in choosing a non-slick tyre for the race start at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal under cloudy conditions. The reigning constructors' champions made the call based on the slippery nature of the Montreal surface heading into the grand prix, but the gamble backfired sharply. Dry conditions persisted from the opening lap, rendering the intermediate compound wholly unsuitable and leaving McLaren's drivers in a compromised position from the very start.
