Hamilton beats Maldonado to Barcelona pole

Lewis Hamilton will start tomorrow's Spanish Grand Prix from pole position after a commanding performance in qualifying, sharing the front row with Williams' Pastor Maldonado in second. Hamilton's pole lap was over half a second quicker than Maldonado's effort, helping McLaren secure their milestone 150th pole position in tremendous style. Concern over tyre wear during tomorrow's Grand Prix meant Hamilton was the only driver from the top ten to complete two runs during Q3 and set the benchmark at a 1m22.560s on his first flying lap on used tyres.
