Hamilton: Thought we would be better
Lewis Hamilton admits McLaren are lagging "a long way away" from Red Bull Racing in terms of pace after being soundly beaten at the British Grand Prix.
Starting eighth on the grid, Hamilton had hoped to make amends for a poor qualifying performance at his home grand prix. However, instead he finished exactly where he started.
The McLaren driver opted for a long first stint that saw him leading the grand prix for several laps before his first pit stop dropped him well down the order.
Attempting to leapfrog rivals, Hamilton had a short middle stint of just eight laps on the soft Pirelli rubber before he was back in the pits for his second and last stop.
