20 second penalty drops Vettel to fifth

German Grand Prix stewards have dropped Sebastian Vettel to fifth place in the official classification of this afternoon's race after penalising him 20 seconds for an illegal overtaking manoeuvre on McLaren's Jenson Button. The move came on the penultimate lap of today's 67-lap race, when Vettel ran off-track while exiting the hairpin before his pass on Button was complete. The stewards deemed that running off-track had given Vettel an unfair advantage and gave him a retrospective drive-through penalty which is converted into a 20-second time penalty.
