Vergne: More competitive

Jean-Eric Vergne is hoping to build on his P14 starting position when he tackles the United States GP on Sunday. The Toro Rosso driver achieved his best grid slot since May's Spanish Grand Prix when he crossed the line with a 1:37.879 in Q2 at the Circuit of the Americas. It was the also the first time in three races that the Frenchman had beaten his team-mate Daniel Ricciardo in qualifying, although he was quick to downplay this.
