Electric pit motors postponed until 2017

Formula 1 governing body the FIA has postponed the introduction of the rule forcing cars to be powered by an electric motor in the pit lane until 2017. The decision was made at a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) in Turkey on Wednesday. 'The requirement for cars to be driven exclusively under electric power in the pit lane has been postponed until 2017,' read a statement issued by the FIA, with the new regulation initially set to be enforced at the beginning of the 2014 season. The rule tweak faced heavy criticism when initially outlined last year, with fears that team members and marshals would not be able to hear cars entering the pit lane.
