Formula 1 teams cut emissions by 7 percent

The Formula 1 paddock cut emissions by 6.9 percent between 2009 and 2011, according to environmental research organisation Trucost. Commissioned to carry out the study by the Formula One Teams’ Association (FOTA), the company covered a range of areas including fuel usage, business travel and materials expenditure. Of the Green House Gas (GHG) categories listed, emissions from F1 cars saw the biggest drop over the two year period, with a reduction of 23.8 percent thanks largely to improved fuel efficiency.
