FIA: Tyre changes purely on safety grounds

The FIA has waded into the on-going tyre saga by stating that any changes made by Pirelli would be for safety reasons, instead of a deliberately reducing the number of pit stops in a race. Pirelli has come under fire so far this season for creating a tyre which is too aggressive, forcing drivers to pit between three and four times as well as driving with great care. Red Bull has been the most vocal team, claiming that their drivers are driving at the capability of their tyres, not their car. Paul Hembery confirmed after the Spanish Grand Prix that Pirelli would be bringing a new design of tyre to next month's Canadian Grand Prix, reinforcing the need to reduce the number of stops. Now...
