Alonso backs Merc in Monaco

Fernando Alonso believes Mercedes will "be strong" at this weekend's Monaco GP as the layout suits their cars. Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton have secured pole position for the last three seasons but failed to turn any into a victory as their W04 struggled for race-pace on its Pirelli tyres. This weekend's Monaco race, though, is a completely different story. Given the nature of the track and the lack of high speeds, tyre wear is lessened which could play into the hands of the Mercedes duo. "Mercedes will be strong," said Alonso.
