Track Guide – Nurburgring GP-Strecke
As per our Grand Prix preview, the 5.148km track, which consists of 15 corners, last held the honour of being the backdrop for this season’s race in the heart of the Eifel mountains two years ago, where a McLaren-based Lewis Hamilton won the race ahead of Fernando Alonso and pole sitter Mark Webber, before last year saw the Spanish double World Champion dominate from the very beginning.
Mercedes power has shown its pace around here, as 1954 saw Karl Kilng become the first driver for the Stuttgart giant to set a fastest lap in a home Grand Prix, with Juan Manuel Fangio securing both the pole position and race win that year in the “Silver Arrow” Type W 196.
