Petrov hopeful of F1 return with Mercedes support

Vitaly Petrov may be set to return to Formula One in 2014 with support from Mercedes. The Russian lost his drive at Caterham at the end of last year and has spent 2013 on the side-lines after failing to secure a drive with another team. The 28-year-old was a guest of Mercedes at the Moscow based round of the DTM last weekend and told Russian news agency RIA Novosti: “'It would be great if Mercedes would support me. I'm open to discussions.' Petrov added that he was currently being supported by the promoters of the inaugural Russian Grand Prix, due to be held at the Sochi Olympic Park.
