Hamilton takes pole position in Monaco

Mercedes AMG Petronas World Champion Lewis Hamilton claimed pole position in Monaco for the first time after dominating Q3 in cloudy conditions. Hamilton set a quick benchmark during the early stages and improved to a 1:15.098, while team-mate Nico Rosberg locked up into Sainte Devote. Rosberg’s first time was rapid enough for second place, ahead of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. Daniel Ricciardo took fourth for Red Bull and was backed up by team-mate Daniil Kvyat. Kimi Räikkönen secured sixth for Ferrari while Sergio Pérez progressed through to Q3 for Force India and took a surprise seventh.
