Deal to secure the future of the Russian Grand Prix close

The promoters of the inaugural Russian Grand Prix have moved to end the uncertainty over the future of the race, announcing that a deal with the country’s motorsport body to officially apply to add the event to the 2014 Formula calendar is close. As reported last week, doubts had been raised on the future of the event after a financial dispute between the Sochi Olympic Park’s promoters JSC Omega and the Russian Automobile Federation (RAF), which led the RAF to refuse to lodge an official application to the FIA to host the race in 2014. The July 31st deadline passed without an application by the RAF being submitted and the FIA would now have to be convinced that the failure was a result...
