Hamilton leads Mercedes 1-2 in Bahrain first practice

Lewis Hamilton set the pace in the opening free practice session of the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend, leading a Mercedes 1-2. It was a busy start to first practice with Jean-Eric Vergne, Marcus Ericsson and Giedo van der Garde being the first drivers to take to the Bahrain International Circuit. The latter replaced Esteban Gutierrez at Sauber for the session and was one of three reserve drivers to drive first practice. Robin Frijns, who was driving Kamui Kobayashi's Caterham CT05, set the first time of the day.
