Fernando Alonso gets updated Honda engine and 30-place grid penalty

Fernando Alonso will start the Malaysian Grand Prix from the back of the grid this weekend as will run Honda's updated power unit, which will incur a 30-place grid penalty as he has already used the maximum allowed units this season. Honda had looked at introducing a final upgrade of the season to use up its remaining three development tokens during one of the final five races, but keen to avoid a grid penalty at its home race in Japan, it brought the upgrade forward to Malaysia instead. Alonso will trial the developments, which include a lighter engine block and new exhaust, on his McLaren during first practice on Friday. He will get a new internal combustion engine,...
