Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has downplayed suggestions that Fernando Alonso is in contention for a race set with the team despite meeting Flavio Briatore in Baku. A picture of Briatore dining with Wolff and Niki Lauda posted by the former Benetton and Renault boss on Twitter inevitably set tongues wagging, as did a public meeting for the other member of Alonso's management team – Luis Garcia Abad – with Renault chief Cyril Abiteboul.
