Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone has come out in support of Dubai owing an F1 team saying it would be good for the sport.

Over the weekend rumors surfaced that the royal family of Dubai were interested in buying an F1 team and yesterday, in a statement released by a senior member of the ruling Maktoum family, the country confirmed its intention to purchase.

Although no teams were named speculation at the British GP was that it would be either BAR, Minardi or Jordan that were sold to Dubai.

In April this year the Middle East made their debut on the 2004 Formula One calendar when Bahrain hosted a very successful grand prix.

Now Ecclestone says he is hopeful that the Middle East will get their own team because it would be great for F1.

"It would be good for Formula One as a whole. It would be super. I would definitely be supportive - but let's see if it happens, although I am hopeful," Bernie said.
