Big changes proposed for 2005

From 2006, there will be a choice of engines...

The FIA has today provided the Formula One teams with details of a package of measures to reduce the performance of Formula One cars. These measures are likely to be imposed if satisfactory proposals have not been agreed by at least eight teams and presented to the FIA before 6 September 2004.

1. Aerodynamics (2005)

Diffuser height limited, front wing raised, rear wing element moved forward and changes to the bodywork immediately in front of the rear wheels. Together, these changes are estimated to reduce downforce on a current car by at least 25%, but reduce drag by less than 4%.

Explanation: lower downforce will reduce speeds, particularly in fast corners, and slightly increase braking distances, while the small reduction in drag will have a minimal effect on straight-line speeds.

2. Tyres (2005)

A driver may choose from two types of tyre, as in 2004. He will then have two sets of his chosen tyre, one for Friday and Saturday practice, the other for qualifying and the race. A damaged tyre can be replaced during the race (taken from the first set), but the car cannot be refuelled at the same time as the damaged tyre is changed.

Explanation: a tyre which must last 350 km rather than 80 km will have less grip, reducing cornering speeds, increasing braking distances and possibly producing less tyre debris or

the FIA are a bunch of ****ING w#nkerS. do they not know that if a tyer has less grip then the car has more chance of having a crash. MAN if i sore one of them tossers right now i whould have a few words to say to them :evil:. im so cut right now there recking the sport. 2.4 leter V8, weres the excitment in that. and if there is 25% les downforce then the car will again have more chance of going off. The **** wits are turning the sport into Champ Car and we all know how bad there going (eaven throw i do wach Champ car). and thay think that thiss will cut cost. Ferrari,m Williams, Mclaren and toyota will still spent $200 million plus a year just to get the car back up to how it was this year wile leaving a bigger gap back to Jordan , Minardi and Jag who have a lot less to spend.

In my humble opinion, less downforce is the key. Maybe it will have less effect on the car following, enabling PASSING, something that is sure lacking in F1.

As for the 2.4 litre V8 , it wont be long before the manufacturers get up to near the same horsepower as now, you watch.

The 2 sets of tyres YEAH for sure AND if they banned re-fuelling, would take out HEAPS of team stratagies, all down to the driver.

Look, if the FIA wants to slow the cars and give them more competitivness, just do this: issue white cars (V8 engines) on the friday before the race with white suits and helmets, so no one knows who is driving and which team it is. Then random numbers shall be issued for scoring so still no one knows who is driving. Then after the race the identity of the team and driver shall be known as winners, and as cars retire, the drivers may reveal themselves.

just a bit of Aussie-American exchange of laguage...nothing more, yet these measures will increase costs as team will have to develop new stuff to comply with these measures. With the items I proposed, the FIA will make and distribute the cars, taking almost 85% of the team's budgets out of the window.

I am not at all in favour of these suggestions. However I would like to see the grid mixed up a bit more and this could be done by, as another guy suggested before, running in reverse championship order so the fastest guys are at the back and have to overtake the slower guys

Hey Alistair, they do that now, onlt thing is the REASON ( engine Change) and to date I don't recall a faster driver/car winning from the back, but maybe my memory aint that good

And hey you said a few posts back that they do race older cars from the 80's :shock: Geez I was helping BUILD race cars in the 80's That made me fell OLDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
