BAR NEEDS TO CARRY MOMENTUM

Last Updated: Sunday, 18, July, 2004, 01:19

BAR technical director Geoff Willis says the team needs to find more speed if it is maintain its momentum for the remainder of the season.

Jenson Button said after the British Grand Prix that the team had slipped back in recent races. It now faces a fight with a rejuvenated McLaren team whose new MP4-19B has shown impressive pace straight out of the block. Kimi Raikkonen's second place at Silverstone pushed Button down to fourth spot, robbing him of a podium in his home race.

The team has been testing at Jerez this week and has featured near the top of the timesheets each day, despite engine and gearbox problems for both Jenson Button and Anthony Davidson. The team will introduce a number of upgrades at next weekend's German Grand Prix.

"It's really important we introduce a number of mechanical, aerodynamic and engine upgrades, that we've got," said Willis, "and get them working on a car as soon as possible. I'd like to have introduced them earlier but for a number of reasons we didn't feel we'd fully tested them."
