BARCELONA TEST CANCELLED

Last Updated: Monday, 17, January, 2005, 10:06

BAR and Sauber have cancelled their tests at Barcelona this week due to problems with the new track surface.

The circuit has been closed for the past month while labourers carried out resurfacing. The work was only completed last week.

BAR, who launched their 2005 car at the circuit on Sunday, said the newly-laid surface was too slippery.

A team statement said: "The new track surface will not allow for a proper evaluation of the proposed test programme.

BAR have switched their testing programme to Valencia instead.

It was left to Takuma Sato to explain what was wrong with the track surface.

He said: "They've resurfaced it all and oil is coming up. Maybe they need to make the surface a bit rougher. Off line it is unbelievably slippery, which is very dangerous."
