GPWC SHIFTS UP A GEAR

The Grand Prix World Championship organisation, the manufacturer-led group that is planning to break away from Formula 1, is ramping up its plans for a launch in 2008.

Autosport-Atlas reports that the structures are now in place for the formulation of a framework of rules, with four taskforces having been assigned specific responsibilities for the various elements necessary to get a new series off the ground.

The technical package is to be drawn up by Williams co-owner Patrick Head and McLaren CEO Martin Whitmarsh.

McLaren team manager Dave Ryan is to devise the sporting regulations, while media relations will be handled by BAR marketing director Alistair Watkins.
