Renault says that development work on its V8 engine is on schedule even though it has not yet run the new power unit on the racetrack.

Some rival teams such as Ferrari and Toyota have already logged plenty of miles on their 2006 engines, but Renault is confident in its own timetable and unconcerned that the competition appears to have got a head start.
