As for the cost of F1, I read somewhere, cant find the article now, that Ferrari spent almost $200,000 on a complete set of brakes for ONE car. If my memory serves me correct it included Ceramic composition discs etc etc..

Like can you imagine Minardi using these !!!! even if they could afford to BUY them I bet the drivers would have one ess pedal in the car (Brake Pedal that is ) as they sure wouldn't want to wear em out LOL

I do not know if my knowledge is outdated, but I remember that the average F1 car costs about $800,000 to put together. So $200,000 would be an entire fourth of the price. But then my knowledge is probably outdated, and the Ferrari is not an average car in the proper sense of the word!!!

well I think your costs are way out of it these days.. As I understand it an F1 engine rebuild is like $250 K I may be wrong but with all the technology etc I think this would be a good ball park figure .. even consider the tyres ??

In V8 super car racing here in OZ the cost of a set of wheels for a team for 2 cars is $80 k PLUS the tyres.. I will have to check the web site and relay some of these costs

Yea, I am almost sure that my knowledge is outdated. I remember that this info was from a magazine (Popular Science?) that had an article on Benetton, and thena blowup picture of the car showed all kinds of prices for parts and the total was $800,000. I think it was for the 1999 season, but am not completely sure.

I do agree though, $800,000 sounds like way too little. A full scale WRC Peugeot 206 costs around $550,000 total, but an F1 car is way ahead.

Even then Jens, Benetton never had the budget of Ferrari, Williams, McLaren or (now) Toyota.
