Youths to design, build mini cars for F1 in Texas

An international education initiative for students to design, build and operate miniature race cars will be part of the 2013 Formula 1 weekend in Texas. Organisers on Tuesday announced plans for the F1 in Schools World Finals to be held in November in Austin. Officials with Circuit of The Americas says it's the first time the education and engineering event will take place in the United States. The 2012 World Finals were in Abu Dhabi. Students ages 9 to 19 team up to secure sponsors and use computers to help design, build and race miniature gas powered balsa wood F1-style cars. The 2013 United States Grand Prix will be held November 15-17 at the Circuit of the Americas complex.
