All the conspiracy theorists out there who believe Ferrari purposely bungled Rubens Barrichello's final pit stop in Spain can stopped grumbling, because according to the Brazilian there was no underhand play.

In the second of his two pit stops Barrichello, who was chasing race leader and team-mate Michael Schumacher, was forced to wait while his mechanics brought out the correct tyres. The wait, only a couple of seconds, was believed by conspiracy theorists to be a deliberate ploy on Ferrari's part to prevent Barrichello from taking the race victory away from Schumacher.

Barrichello, though, says it was not a factor in the final result.

"As for the pit stop problem, all I can say is that I would have finished closer to Michael, but I would not have won," he said.

"'I had two chances of winning: the first if Trulli had managed to keep his lead after he and Michael made their first stops and then, after Michael came back on track after his second stop, I was just a second behind, so that was the closest I came."

Schumacher went on to win the race, while Barrichello finished in second place. The Brazilian will now take part in a one-day test programme at Mugello before moving to Fiorano to conclude his pre-Monaco preparations.

"We look good in the championships, but we cannot discount the opposition, so the testing goes on. As for the opposition, we should remember that last year, Williams did not really get on the pace until they won in Monaco, so we should definitely not discount them and now it is clear that, in terms of pure speed, BAR are the closest to us, with Williams and Renault not too far behind."

There is now way Rubens is gonna badmouth Ferrari. As he said "they pay him good money to do a job", which is to be the Ferrari lap dog and perform tricks on command!! :wink:
