Ralf lashes out at Indy doctors

Ralf Schumacher has lashed out at the American doctors who treated him in the wake of his USGP crash for failing to discover he'd broken two vertebrae.

At first it was believed that the only injuries Ralf had sustained in his 320kph Indianapolis accident was a concussion and bruising to his back. However, a week and a half later following extensive tests, at the clinic in Bad Neuheim where the 29-year-old is being treated, it was discovered he'd actually fractured his spine in two places.

The injury means Ralf will be out of F1 for the next eight to twelve weeks, which has effectively brought his season and perhaps his Williams career to a close.

That, though, isn't the reason Ralf's fuming at the moment. Instead his anger is aimed at the US doctors who he believes placed him as risk of paraplegia by allowing him to return home to Austria a day after his accident even though he had a fractured spine.

"I could not believe that they did not recognise the injuries in Indianapolis," Ralf, who is considering legal action, told The Telegraph.

"They did a lot of examinations but did not pick it up. I'm angry that they did not wait and put me on a plane the next day."

Ralf's manager Willi Weber shares the Williams driver's anger. He told Reuters: "I was there during the examination at the hospital yesterday and his reaction, just like mine, was not very positive. You really have to ask yourself what they did in America."
