MCLAREN STICK WITH OLD NOSE

Last Updated: Thursday, 22, July, 2004, 10:52

McLaren will race with their narrow nose at this weekend's German Grand Prix.

The team tested a wider Ferrari-style nose on the last day of testing at Jerez last week as part of their continued programme of development on the MP4-19B as they bid to take their first win of the 2004 season.

But wet weather and changing track conditions meant the team were unable to make meaningful time comparisons between the two noses. McLaren have since confirmed that they will race with the traditional 'anteater' nose at Hockenheim.

Instead the team will introduce their additional aerodynamic modifications which they tested with promising results at the Spanish track.

Hockenheim is expected to suit the MP4-19B even better than Silverstone, where driver Kimi Raikkonen claimed the team's first podium of the season when he took second place.

The low-speed corners and the predicted hot weather will play into their hands and even Ferrari's Michael Schumacher has acknowledged the new McLaren threat.

He said: "We know that McLaren is strong but you must not forget that Ferrari is strong too. Wait and see what happens, but don't forget about us."

It's all Mercedes's fault. McLaren didn't need to develop a new car, they only needed an engine.

I am still wondering how the heck the endplates didn't come off the car...

Maybe they dont need new noses but rear air deflectors!

Imagine the structural stress that those Aerodinamical surfaces has, I dont know (and I dont think) if they use a new air deflector every race, so I think that its used in various races so far, so It maybe had been forced to a lot of kilograms of forces along the season, I think thats why in determinated time those structures brakes apart (like the airplanes)
