Circuit Gilles Villeneuve represents a special challenge for the cars of the BMW Williams, with the stop-and-go character of the track pushing the brakes on the FW27 to the very limit.

Last year at the same circuit, Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya were stripped on their second and fifth place finishes respectively with the team as it was found post-race that the team, under the direction of Technical Director Sam Michael for the first time, had run illegal brake ducts in error. Toyota had the same problem. This year, the team will be very aware of the rules and regulations.
