Poor Form Ruins Schumacher's Chances

Recommended Posts

Despite admitting at Monza that he does not expect Ferrari to be competitive in this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix, out-going world champion Michael Schumacher says he is looking forward to returning to his favourite circuit this weekend.

Spa-Francorchamps was the scene of Schumacher's Formula 1 debut in 1991, his first victory the following year and also where he clinched his seventh and most recent title.

But the German did concede that Ferrari's poor form had tainted his excitement for the weekend ahead.

"I always have special feelings when Spa comes around, and I'd also like to look forward that much to the race this time," he told his official webiste.

"But I have to admit that our performance is slightly diminishing my pleasant anticipation - it's quite clear you want to push your limits at this track and don't want to have to compromise.

"But after our recent disappointing performances - in Turkey, and unfortunately also last weekend at Monza - I do not have the impression we will do all that well there."

Whether or not he wins, the great man says he intends to get the most out of the weekend.

"Spa is always special for me, there's no denying it and I don't want to deny it," he added.

"I love this circuit, it's exactly what I like, technically challenging, a real task, and also the landscape is beautiful.

"And also it's not far from my home-town of Kerpen, so we have always had many fans come out and support us.

"We will fight, our fans and opponents can count on that."
