Monza qualifying

Recommended Posts

I'll check it out but I think JPM has probably obtained another record most poles on a season without winning.  He only has 2 races to avoid that, if he is indeed heading there.
Is that so? Amazing that JPM hasn't won considering the amount of poles hes racked up...

I have sifted through all the years and yes, JPM does now hold that record. It was previously Rene Arnoux (Renault) with 4 in 1981.

I dont think that he will win at Indy or Suzuka. He may get another pole but I think victory isn't a chance. I mean Ralf won at Malaysia, but hasn't come close to a win since then. Montoya hasn't really challenged either except at Canada before his engine blew.

It is funny to think that even if MS has a problem he still wins the race! He has that form of 'luck' like how when he spins he always seems to come back on track facing the right direction straight from the spin!

One of the reasons for this is he senses the spin, and assess whether it is catchable of not, if it isn't he don't try to most drivers do anyway. Instead when possible he concentrates on trying to control the spin as best he can. But luck does help him a lot also.

Every driver has a certain amount of luck, such as when the car blows up or not. Hakkinen and Raikkonen seem to have real bad luck with reliability, while Badoer was never reliability's friend either. Schumi and Alesi, maybe even Coulthard seem to be reliability's best friends :D

Reliability, good or bad, does seem to follow some drivers. Andrea de Cesaris retired from every race in 1987, they weren't all reliability though.

Yes but only for Spa, and that is the race I was refering to. He was chasing down an ailing Senna and his radiator went with almost 4 laps to go, Senna just holding on to win.

A mighty effort often overlooked because it was Schumachers debut race.

Sort of he tryed something using the cluch that hadn't been tryed before, and it would have worked if there hadn't been an aborted start, so the cluch was already overused.

So it was a driver encouraged technical problem.

It was something to do with a passing attempt at Eau Rouge Lap 1, spur of the moment kind of thing. But yes it is embarassing when an idea (brilliant or ridiculous)is tryed and fails in a race or qualifing.

I think a lot of his potential seen by Benetton on that day, was the fact he was willing to try somthing different, and that he qualified 7th on debut, which equalled the best Jordan had to date. That was acheived by a driver already in his 12 season.

All I know is that must have being the signing of the decade :D:D .

Could you imagine what F1 would have being without Schumie???

Actually, I can. Hill would have taken his righteous championship in 94, Villeneuve would have won 97 by a big gap, and Mika would now be at least a three time champion.
