Nigel Mansell will return to the scene of some his greatest victories when he tests a Grand Prix Masters car at Silverstone on Wednesday and Thursday.

The British legend, who has already tested the 600-bhp GPM chassis - based on old Champ Car Reynard - at Pembrey, will be joined by a host of famous F1 names as the series embarks on its first major test at a grand prix circuit.

The 52-year-old has signed a three-year deal with organisers of the series, which has been designed as a kind of seniors' tour for motorsport's older stars.

Mansell claims the cars are a real challenge to drive and expects the series to be highly competitive.

"These cars are going to surprise a few people," he told Autosport magazine recently.

"They are tough to drive and you really have to work at it - they remind me of the late '80s and early '90s grand prix cars."

Mansell is expected to be joined at the test by fellow GP winners Riccardo Patrese, Patrick Tambay, Rene Arnoux, Hans Stuck and double world champion Emerson Fittipaldi.

Mansell, who won the 1992 Formula 1 world championship, has previously scored three British Grands Prix wins at the Northamptonshire venue (in 1987, 1991 and 1992).
