Bathurst V8 supercars

Recommended Posts

Ok folks the annual 1000 Km Bathurst race is on in Oz this w/end..

Those that live overseas I would love to know how many will get to see any of the race on TV..

Just an inquiry

As for me well I will be doing the normal traditional thing all Ossie motor race fans do and start with a babie breakfast/few beers/barbie lunch/few more beers etc whilst watching THE GREAT RACE on Tv *smile*

For those that don't know this is a race between FORD and Holden/GM cars only and a lot of rivaly exists.

Gooooooooooooo Forddddddddddddddd

We get it over the ditch to Rod, starts at about noon, if I remember correctly, the TV listing don't say, they just mention when coverage starts. 11am.

Hi Nichos,

Yep ole Jonesey himself but I think one single world champ :-)

We also get a lot of European drivers as well and a lot of the British Toring Car Drivers come over every year.

Hey Jens if you think the track looks great well How about this.

They are proposing a 24 Hour race at Bathurst in November this year for the likes of Ferrari/Porchse/Masurati/Viper type cars along with more expensive sports cars like the Subaru wrxs etc.. Now imagine coming down the hill in the DARK, that would have to be heart stopping :-)

Hey Nichos do you remember Denny Hulme ? well he died at Bathurst during a race I think in the mid 90's with a massive heart attack at the top of the hill but had the peace of mind to slam on the brakes as it was all happening !!!

Hey Nichos,

Allan Jones is racing with DJR ( d#ck Johnson Racing ) the Shell Helix Team this year , normally a goot bet for a win at Bathurst but their performance this year has been dismal lets hope AJ brings em some luck

Not a good way or place to have a heart attack I must say!

That hill is crazy, and coming down it in the dark must be something only a brave driver could do at the limit speeds.

It was 1992, for Denny Hulme. During his heart attack he applied the brakes and pulled over to the side, off the track! He was the first DWC to die of natural causes. I think that is the bast was for a racing driver to die, doing the thing you lave yet it was not that that killed you.

Results of the top 15 "shoot out " for the great race.

Marke Skaife in a Holden Pole ( Tom Walkinshaw Racing Team )

John Bowe in a Falcon 2 nd ( a 50 yr old Tassie driver :-) Ozemail racing team )

Alan Jones in a falcon 7 th ( DJR shell racing team )

Time was 2min 09.170 I think

Top speed down conrod straight on the Rev Limiter was 296 kmh in a SEDAN car, Imagine what an F1 would achieve !!!!!!!!

Sure hope you get to see the race Jens and appreciate what a GREAT circuit this is

Goooooooooooooooooo Boweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee'e

Oh just to mention that this circuit suffers from the Nuburgering type of weather , where it can be rain/hail/even snow on the top of the mountain and clear sunshine on Pit straight.

Last year had HAIL on the top and warm sunshine on pit straight, gotta be a pit managers nightmare :-)

Forecast for tomorrow is fine and warm about 20 deg C.. fingers crossed :-)

wel it was a good race with a bad winner in my point  but anyway mark skaife and jim richards won, but all the guys i went for except one team got screwed over, first the brad jones bowe team i was going for and they got screwed by their suspension, then my other team had gearbox trouble (besnard was the guy i like), then allan jones was my last man and he finished 7th :D good to see jones do well

Well at least the Bathurst is not a forgone thing like F1 at the moment. I have watched this race almost since inseption and NO ONE is totally sure who will win till the last maybe 5 laps and even then it's in the lap of the gods..

Did you see the HAIL Jens !!!! and they talk about being off-line and in the marbles LOL when it HAILS there is NO LINE

was a good race if a bit boring at times but that is normal for a race that long . Oh by the way they had a PORCHE cup race before the main race and the Porche's were 10 secs a lap SLOWER., even the twin turbo ones, so it shows how BRUTE these Aussie V8's are, 600 + hp....

Still want to see an F1 car go around that circuit.

Hey did you see Sir Jack Brabham drive his last world Championship Repco Brabham around the circuit ?? What a SEXY Race car, wish they were built like that today, British racing green/yellow go faster stripe GREAT

The hail was awesome, that would be an EXCELLENT track in F1! Though Bernie probably hasn't even considered it..

The 60's cars do have something about them that is just eye catching, magnificent looking pieces of art they are. Just posted a great pic in the pic thread..

In every other era it is possible to find ugly F1 cars, eg 1996 look at any car besides Williams, Jordan and Sauber (but then Jordan spoilt their's with the 'gold' paint). But in the 60's, non wing, cars it is difficult to find an ugly one.

I think you can find some of the ugliest, I mean simply stupid looking cars from some points in the 70s and also in the 80s. Early 90s had a few odd ones as well, though I particularly liked the 1991 Jordan.
