Eddie and Pedro OUT!!

As for Mark Weber, he deserves it, even though a new comer to F1 he has a wise head on his shoulders sort of an understudy Shumi in my opinion and is capable of nursing home a sick car and we all know that to finish FIRST , first you have to finish.. I think Mark will ADD to Jaguar, cant say much about his partner as I know very little of him.

Go Mark

dunno about the 'understudy shumi' tag but here's hoping :D

& you are right about Webber having a wise head - he said its gonna be tough and he is aiming for consitancy first then the victories will come

Hi OZ,

well I remember when Shumi was in Formula 3 um back in the late 80's, '86 I think and the comment around the traps was that he had a "Mind for weighting up the circumstances " and that I feel is the same with Weber

Webber does have a good head for that. For a while in Melbourne he had the chance to take Irvine on, but saw that he could not keep up and didnt risk it, being happy with fifth. And he didn't lose his cool in his first race in F1, even under heavy pressure from Salo.

The reason he couldn't keep it up against Irv, was that he had an injured car. If he had tryed to fight Irvine he would probably have broken the car completely, and retired. Then Yoong would have moved into 6th place to score Minardi's only 2002 points, that wouldn't have been nearly as popular as the Melborne points were.

I think the combination of Australian driver in his first race with an Australian owned team at the Australian GP had something to do with the whole popularity thing :D

Also the wait, the Aussie public have had since their last F1 driver, not to mention point scorer.
9 years since david brabam (1994 i think) & 12 years since Alan Jones (1980)

HUGE WAIT

im glad that we have 1 now

Jones scored his last point in 1986, his final season in F1. 1980 was his championship year, Williams' first. He is still regarded by Frank as (one of) the greatest Williams drivers ever.

No problem ozrevhead, yes it is a long time.

BTW the ITV/F1Racing man of the year results are out and Mark Webber won the Rookie of the Year category.

i noticed

the guy who wite that piece on mark said he was mansell like

from itv-f1

You only have to chat to Mark, let alone to see him drive, to know that he has it all. He is extremely talented, is very intelligent, has his ego under control and is well-mannered to boot. I have already gone on record as saying that he has at least as much raw ability as another driver I knew well (Nigel Mansell); and Melbourne showed that ? like Nigel ? Mark has the grit to play the big points to perfection.

He never disappointed in 2002, although perhaps he took bravery too far in Barcelona by agreeing to continue to drive the absurdly dangerous, wing-breaking Minardi even on Sunday morning. His Frank Gardner-like response to the loss of the rear wing ? "I thought, ?Hey! That?s great, I?ve picked up a few more revs!?" ? has become part of F1 folklore.

Irvine HAS been a good driver but I feel he is more into the PLAYBOY stage of his career then really devoted to motor racing.

i agree with rod...Eddie is history...i will be surprised if he can pull of a deal with the Minardi's......

irvine not only for being a bad racer but had a bad mouth...used to talk ill about so many people!!!!

i cannot remember which race but when Webber held up a couple of middle-end runners behind him i was surprised and saw the talent....with a Minardi he could do that!!!! i hope he has a good 03 season since Irvine is out....i can go back to appreciating Jaguar F1....some british pride...even though everyone knows Williams BMW f1 will win the 03 season :P:D

The Hockenheim race was where Mark was running high in the midfield, simply fantastic to watch! He will go a long way in F1, world champion in the making. He will, as I have said, battle for championships along with Raikkonen, Button, Alonso, and all the other new guys on the block! :D

The future does look bright, doesn't it. Now here's hoping the midfield teams can improve enough so ALL these young guns have decent rides.
