Why Race Engines Work At Higher Rpm Than Normal Road Engines

we all know that Formula1...MotoGP engines run at much higher RPM than road engines....why??

there lies a big technical aspect behind that....

Had anybody imagined why race engines produce so much high power output (power to cubic capacity ratio) than normal engines....??? The answer is....it is not easy to just feed more petrol in the cylinders and get more power output...but, limiting factor for more PS is the AIR !!!

How much (in CC) engine can take air per cycle is of much importance....if the engines run at 4000RPM, than that means engine crankshaft has 4000 revolutions per minute....in 4 stroke engine, one stroke is power stroke and other three are power consuming strokes...so, possibility for engine to take air inside is only once per engine cycle. This means, engine takes air 4000 times per minute for normal cars..but, we increase this factor to 17000 or 18000 or perhaps 19000 (for formula1 engines) then engine takes much air than normal..which, along with supplied fuel generates more PS !!!!

Even one has to consider the order in which 10 cylinders (oooopsss now 8 !!) are fired...this makes the point that at any time, at least one or more cylinder (s) will be having power stroke...so, there wont be any lag for entire auto...

PS: for the same reason, turbo chargers were introduced..with turbochargers, one can run engine at lower rpm but, forcefuly injecting the relatively compressed air inside the cylinder...producing the same end effect

more rpm= more power

bigger engine=more power/toque

small engine +$50million=lots of revs
