IF the Jerez test showed the car was a lemon (unlikely that it is) would McLaren try to sort it out, or would they persist with the 17D. I think the 17D would be the way to concentrate, as it is not a slow car and there would not be many races left by the time the 18 was to be sorted.

Oh, the car's hardly a lemon, that's almost a unanimously accepted view, however, it's definitely nowhere near as reliable as the 17D ... that's what they're trying to improve... and I doubt that reliability can be built in a week ... to slightly plagiarize a rather well-known saying about Rome

Haha yea, I don't think it will take too long for the debut, but even I personally was skeptic about the Nurburgring, it all depends on the Jerez test next week.

If the car is s##te at Jerezz next week they would do well to scrap it for this season or else they will be conceding the drivers & constructors for this year. They can not afford to throw 2-3 races away at this stage. this will learn them you can't develop 2 cars at the same time 'cuz clearly the MP4-17 was nowhere near what the 'D' spec. car is this year so they have spread themselves too thin Bad stratagy Mr. Dennis..............
