Thats right, the government does not like tobacco...so there won't be a Canadien GP next year.

You see here in the U.S. we wouldn't see a problem like that because our Politicians are smart, and they buy shares of the tobacco companies. But damn everyone else in the world and their moral issues.

They are not unique in this though, Belgium, Austria, Australia and others have been though this to varying levels also.

Actually yeah, when I think about it, it sounds very ignorant. I guess I assumed everyone would know about because its this hit show in the U.S. But to my Ugly American surprise, not everyone in the world does.

Anyways, I know about whats going on in Austria; but I haven't heard anything on Australia. Have they gone through the same situation as Belgium? Or is their government tensed about tobacco as well?

Australia's situation never got that bad it was only ever talk, from what I can gather.

Rod I think the problem is that if Britain, Germany x2, France, Belgium, Austria, Australia and Canada all had the alternative scheme the fear is the tobacco companies would pull out due to lack of 'visability'.

Guess what I just thought of....

Remember of the last few weeks, there has been a lot of talk about 16 races minus Austria plus China, Bahrain and Belgium equals one too many. Lose Canada and Belgium look very good to return and Imola looks safe for now.

Anyways, it isn't too surprising considering the reason. Fortunately we will only have to listen to these tobacco debates for a couple years more, and then the anti-tobacco legislation comes into effect. It is mostly a EU thing, European politicians do think a lot about the moral and public benefit side of things, and even if tobacco has a lot of money involved in it, it won't budge them.

In that way, I am extremely surprised that Belgium is coming back. I would never have thought that the government would have twisted the law again to make an exception for F1 and international events.

okay see, at first i siad 'Blame Canada! Blame Canada!' You know from the South Park movie (Great Movie). Then Nichos was trying to crack a joke. And being the moran I am, I thought he was calling me ignorant because i assumed everyone knew about South Park. So I took it out, you know not to look like an idiot. However, that wasn't really the case because no one would have really cared. Long story short.....I can't understand when someone is being serious or when they're joking, so I start to assume whatever I want and usually its wrong. And now at the end of all this, I realized that if I wouldn't have payed serious attention to what I thought Nichos was saying, then everything would have been easy to understand; and I wouldn't have looked like an idiot. Hope everything is clear now, and next time I'll try not to think a whole lot.

Yes Jens, I read that, and was absolutely confused. I suppose we will only know for sure when the calender for 2004 is published. We may even have to wait for the final version before it is cleared up completly.
