Prodrive And The Mclaren Saga.....

Recommended Posts

With the intellectual property implications of McLarens 2007 and 2008 cars being brought under question, especially with the proposed 'special pre race scrutineering'. Does this mean Dave Richards and his Prodrive team are running a mile from car sharing with McLaren? Theoretically, it is not the team, but the car that is illegal, so anyone running the same car is also going to be judged illegal. Meaning Prodrive Dodge/Chrysler/Smart (or what ever it may be called) is going to need to find an alternative chassis partner (as far as i'm aware the Merc-Illmor engines are not being accused of having Ferrari parts?) And this may well be why no announcements have been made regarding this team yet. Is this going to be still born? Or is Dave Richards going to pull some rabits out of the hat? (theoretically he has links with the Renault and Honda teams, although neither on particularly good terms) or buy the car of another independant looking for some money (Williams or Spyker?) and shoehorn in an engine from elsewhere? lots of options, Ferrari supply 3 teams, Merc could still do an engine only deal, again Honda or Toyota could supply another team or BMW/Renault could supply someone else? heck there is even Cosworth (theoretically, the engine from last years Williams is still up to 2008 race spec due to the engine development freeze)

Do we await further news?

Prodrive won't be affected...McLaren is going to put their car under examination in december. If the project is approved no problem for Richards. He could anyway line up a 1 year old Mc!

However I do suppose the fact we are still waiting to hear news from prodrive was related to the spy story that's for sure
