Dixon gets williams test

Recommended Posts

Hey

Just read that Scott Dixon has been given a test drive with Williams.

Would be great to see a Kiwi get a seat in F1. If he does well it will put some pressure on Ralf in his contract negotiations 8)

I would love to see Dixon in a F1 car, we have not had a Kiwi in F1 since Mike Thackwell. He had a one off in 1980 then again a one off in 1984. Hey it may even mean we get Malaysia, China and Japan live. Although based on Aussie, I doubt it, you have Webber and some delayed races.

With Dixon getting a test at Williams I smell a jv/dixon pairing for '05. Dixon is in exactly the same situation JV found himself in at '95. He was given a test to see if he had what it takes, he showed he did and was offered the drive and did lots and lots of testing. Now FW wants the constructors title more than anything else, so he'll need a driver with experience and who knows how to get the job done, who better than JV??!! He could help Dixon in that JV came from the states, ok from CART, but still from the states and at the same time help Williams get the constructors title and himself get the drivers title.

A pipedream? Maybe, but until there is are confirmations, i'll keep speculating. As for Webber, I read in Autosport today that FW wanted him for this year to replace Montoya but Flav said no as he only wanted FW to have him for 1 year. This only proves that MW will move to Renault next year, otherwise why would he deny him the move.

OK, you may now begin taunting me for daring to think of such a thing happening.

There’s a good chance JV will be back in 2005 but I’m not sure it will be with Williams.

I'm only mentioning JV purely on bias and speculation. I'm not very confident he'll get the drive, but I can't see Webber or Button getting the drive going on information I've read. If indeed Dixon gets the drive, remember this first test is for him to get used to the car, the real one will be later at Barcelona, Sir Frank will want an experienced driver to compliment his rookie. It's a very similar situation to when JV came in, thus my gut feeling about JV. Sir Frank wants the constructors title, and if Ralf and JPM keep trying to take each other off, he wont get it. Same for next year, he wont get it with two inexperienced drivers.

I'd love nothing more than to see JV back at Williams, but until it's confirmed otherwise, I'll hold on to that thought!!
