We had aerodynamics classes in the evening and our teacher (who hates to be called a teacher) who works for Sparco and Ferrari etc etc etc, was kind enough to bring a his colleague who brought the prototype of Irvine's racing helmet to explain the aerodynamics acting on it, and that glossy transparent thing is something that (he did name it, but sorry I forgot...if anyone could help) is attached behind the helmet to adjust the downforce and lift according to the way the driver likes...
