MARK WEBBER

Recommended Posts

just read this from GP2004

It was reported yesterday that Toyota could be on the hunt to secure the services of Jaguar’s Mark Webber if the Australian driver leaves the Milton Keynes based squad at the end of the season, but it looks as if they could be to late with our spies at the Nurburgring telling us that he has already signed a pre-contract with the BMW Williams squad.

Jaguar needs to be at least sixth by mid season to hold onto the Australian driver and they are currently in eighth place with just three points from seven races. The mid point of the 2004 season will some after Indianapolis, the ninth round of the year and if they are below the magic number, mark is free to leave and join the BMW powered squad.

As for just who will partner Webber, there have been several rumours, one being a return of Jacques Villeneuve and the other being a return of Mika Hakkinen. As for the latter, he has denied that he will test a Williams soon, but that does not mean anything in the world of F1. The truth is that he has lost 12 kg of weight in two months, stopped drinking and smoking and now undergoes a 3-hour daily fitness program. He also secured 1st and 2nd place in a Porsche cup race in Finland last weekend, showing that the despite to race and win is till present.

In fact, the news about his intentions only came to light because he told Keke Rosberg and then, in turn, Rosberg spread this as a rumour in the paddock at Monte Carlo. As Mika wanted to keep it secret, it was not really a clever idea to tell his former manager as Keke now has the future of his son Nico to consider and he too has his own cards in the Williams game.

how good is this now if Jag is behind 6th after USA it will be on between Williams ans toyota. but i must say with Webber going fastest in testing yesterday jag might just hold onto Webber. thats if his car makes it to the finsh.
