ALONSO FASTEST AT MONZA

Last Updated: Saturday, 04, September, 2004, 14:46

Fernando Alonso was the surprise pacesetter on the final day of testing at Monza.

By Alonso's own admission, Monza is not a circuit that suits the Renault but he still pipped Jenson Button to top spot by eight hundredths of a second.

The session was marred by yet another tyre failure - this time Olivier Panis was the unlucky victim. But this time the problem was simply down to the fact that someone from Michelin forgot to put the valve cap on!

The Williams were third and fourth, Antonio Pizzonia getting the better of Juan Pablo Montoya.

Luca Badoer was seventh in the sole Ferrari while the McLarens, who ran a new wider nose, were eighth and ninth.

8) agree it's good to be informed but the times are non issues as one doesn't know under what setup etc they were set.
