JPM FASTEST ON MCLAREN DEBUT

Last Updated: Wednesday, 24, November, 2004, 17:53

Juan Pablo Montoya ended his first day as a McLaren driver at the top of the Barcelona timesheets.

The Colombian was half a second faster than former Williams team-mate Ralf Schumacher, who was making his Toyota debut.

Mark Webber and Giancarlo Fisichella also got their first proper taste of their new cars.

In fact it was a day of firsts all round.

Sauber had their inaugural run with Michelin tyres, Felipe Massa clocking the third fastest time of the day while Christian Klien was fourth fastest for the new Red Bull Racing team.

Tuesday pacesetter Marc Gene had to settle for sixth place ahead of Ferrari colleague Luca Badoer.

At the bottom of the timesheets, Enrique Bernoldi was two seconds slower than the rest on the first outing for the new BAR concept car.

However, it is difficult to read too much into the times because some teams were running 2004-spec cars while others tried out a variety of development parts, from aero packages to new engines.

Wow, Its great to watch the cars racing again, I guess the season is already starting now, good impresion for Montoya and Mclaren and I like to see R.$ in the Toyota maybe missing his williams outfit in that lower team. :P

I wish there were more pics, and more Fisichela action in the Renault... :)

bye!

From the position they were in last year I too find it difficult to see them as title contenders next year.
