Yea CART are still not in the carbon brake area. Their engines are turbocharged which helps on the ovals and such, but they arent as well engineered to take corners that fast. Also they use an older style gearbox setup with the forward-backward sequential movement (push on stick, pull on stick - rally style) which slows them down, not too much but still enough. Acceleration isn't as good on CART cars either, and tyres are a big huge difference. Though CART have slicks, I think they are still a basic rubber base wihle F1 is way past that with the hightech chemical mixes and such.

ozrevhead, good to hear from you again! I do agree that Adelaide was a great circuit, and wouldnt mind one bit to see it used once again :D

Hear you loud and clear "Ozrevhead"

But hey can you just imagine an onboard camera shot of an F1 going through the KINK and the end of Conrod Straight !!!! Like what speed would they be doing and how late on the BRAKES......for Castrol corner gotta be AWESOME :-) and going up the hill through the cutting !!

As I have said have raced this circuit in F1 GP2 in an F1 car and is well "Mind Blowing " :D

Why don't we scrap two boring races like Hungary & Austria and give Australia 3 races :lol::lol: .

Seriously though - Adelaide is probably my favoured one but not knowing Bathurst very well I could be completely wrong...

Hehehe, I dont think Austria is too boring of a race, and have always sort of liked Hungary for some reason... Anyway its all down to uncle Bernie!

Japan, France, Italy, Germany, England, and the USA have all at some stage had 2 races in a season before, must be Australia's turn by now. In fact in 1982 USA had 3, Italy had 2 and France had 2 (3 if you count Monaco), ALL IN THE SAME SEASON.

That is true, USA having three races is a lot, but then it is a big country. Nevertheless, Australia is an entire CONTINENT, so why not have another race there? :D

That was the only year there were three in a country, but the US has had 2 quite a lot and Italy has had 2 every year since 1981.

The other Aussie race could be the Pacific GP, a name used in the years Japan had two races. Or the New Zealand GP, France has hosted the Swiss GP and Germany the Luxemburg etc.

Hey

At least I got some good discussion going :D

But in all seriuosness would any of the F1 CIRCUIT even give Bathurst a second glance!!!!

Like there are concrete walls to hit and the need to actually DRIVE a car with finesse around a very challenging circuit... Nah I for one cannot see the Primadonas of Racing wanting to race on a circuit that is not SQUEAKY Clean.. Gues it's just for the AUSSIE Rev Head V8 drivers or the upcoming 24 hr race drivers.. but a LOT of overseas drivers LOVE that circuit... Time will tell but as sure as the sun will come up tomrrow nthing will change .. sadly

I fear that you are right Rod, it is a pitty the fans don't have a bit more of a say in matters of this nature.

What I think would be good, (it will never happen though), to allow more countries or circuits to host races. Have each circuit sign with the FIA contract of no more than 3 years, and a contract that expires cannot be renewed for the very next season.

yep Nichos,

Don't get me wrong circuits like Malaysia are great but hey they are designed for the SPECTATOR, and after all Spectators and TV PAY for this expensive racing, but that circuit has been designed for the IDIOT driver in my opinion.. What I mean is that ( speaking from the not so good drivers viewpoint) Ok I'll go in deep in this corner, let's see how fast I can make it happen , and If it's too fast well there is a DESERT of sand out there to stop me, nothing to hit, and the tow trck will recouver my vehicle so that my mechanics can work their A..s off repairing my car for me to go and try something else STUPID..

Am I wrong in my assumption ???

I do feel that the modern F1 car has been , and should be , developed with the drivers TOTAL safety , foremost , but some drivers SEEM to feel that they are in the WOMB and Nothing can/will happen to them no matter HOW stupid they drive !!!

am I being too CYNICAL ???

Rod

Cynical, but not too cynical :D I agree mostly, and when you consider that Germany now has two races, Italy has two, then why not reintroduce the Pacific GP at Bathurst or Adelaide?

I agree Rod there should be more of a penalty for going of the track, especially in the race. These high friction sufaces that are replacing some sand traps will allow for the stupidity you referred to Rod to continue into the race, as going off will not spell retirement in a lot of excursions.

Also add this into the equation !!!!

The organisers build a circuit, put in bends etc to make racing a bt more then a DRAG race.. then they add the "Ripple strips " on the outside of a corner.. not TOO high or TOO rough... so every driver USES them as a means of making the corner straighter...THEN they add a concrete/Bitumen strip OUTSIDE of the ripple strips so if your game enough and feel that your cars suspension can TAKE all this pounding, you can make the corner wider and larger and drive on the EXTRA bit !!!!!!

My thoughts are " WHY HAVE THE CORNER IN THE FIRST PLACE " ????

Even though I HATE street circuits at least there is no CHEATING in the corners , you go wide , you clout the concrete Barriers, end of race for you...

Your thoughts guys and gals !!

I agree completly Rod the track is the 'black stuff' not the curbs/ripples strips/rumble strips/saw tooth curbs etc. By the way have you seen what has been done at Monza, just behind the curbs they have places judder bars/speed humps. Drivers, particulary DC have complained already.

But the kerbs are still good to use when driving. They help bring you round the corner because the grip level between track and kerb is different and a driver can use that to his advantage. The F1 cars run so slow that a bad kerb easily damages the bottom.

The area beyond the curbs should not be used in Canada some cars were running the chicanes whenever no other cars were near them. But because they didn't pass or prevent a pass were not penalised.

I'm not condoning the Monza 1996 solution either. Tyre stacks at the apex of the chicanes. What a mess they caused.

I think the organisers were thinking, 'it is obvious what will happen if anyone touches them therefore none of the drivers will'. They sould have knowen better than that though. Almost every single driver touched them, even those that retired due to other causes and those that didn't retire.

A bit like Monaco... you shouldnt have walls to try prevent cutting of corners, because sometimes when youre pushing hard you just have to cut it after outbraking yourself.
